The church was built up in the XIII century on the place of one palaeo-christian basilica of the VI century in gotich shape that is conserved into the inside, while the facade is a work of XVII century. In this church according to a common belief, Boccaccio met Fiammetta for the first time. The inside, Latin cross,has only one nave with lateral chapels and wooden ceiling, the apse, introduces a splendid deambulatory, delimited by some aisles with a radial arrangement. Annexed  to the church there are the ruins of anciet Greek and Roman buildings of great interest.
