SANTA MARIA LA NOVA

When in the 1300, Carl d' Angiò, decided the construction of the Maschio Angioino (New Castel),He granted to the Franciscan friars who had in that place a church, a ground to the inside of walls where a new church was constructed (and the convent) that took the name of Santa Maria la Nova ("the new Saint Maria").
The  actual church is a reconstruction of the XVI the century. With only a nave with lateral aisles,it has an elegant renaissance facade ,a wooden ceiling covered by gold and painting of great artistic value. During the Spanish domination the church was attended by the Neapolitan aristocracy:there are many signs in the noble chapels and in the tombs of the church.
