NAPLES AND ITS THEATRES

In Naples the theatre is any street, in any square. The most important Neapolitan actors, from Eduardo to Totò, seem not to play, but just put on the stage the real life of Naples together with their “napoletanità”. But we don’t have to forget the theatres: all of them are very close to the Hotel Chiaja. In just 100 metres we reach the bigger and the most important theatre: the San Carlo lyric theatre, where the Italian lyric opera is born during the ‘700. With few steps more from our hotel, on the same way (via chiaia), there is the Sannazzaro theatre in which used to work the famous Neapolitan writer Scarpetta (Miseria e Nobiltà, Un turco napoletano, just to make some names) and where used to play the De Filippo (Eduardo,Peppino e Titina). In piazza Municipio we can admire the Mercadante theatre, recently restored, which already from the early 700 was the place of the intellectual comedy. Just a bit far away we can found the Bellini theatre, born at the end of ‘800 as second lyric theatre of Naples, after a long crisis, thanks to a very good musical and prose planning, it had a new born of great cultural interest
