VIA CHIAIA Via chiaia is considerated traditionally the most elegant road of Naples,It joins the zone of the Royal palace to the beach (Chiaja indicated in fact the beach:chiaia=sand) In origin was the river bed of the waters that used to slid from the hills of Pizzofalcone (center of the Greek Palepolis ) and the “Mortelle” (of the myrtle), the two hills are joined from the 1636 by an artistic bridge.It was the distance that the king covered in order to catch up the sea and the royal park (our “villa comunale”) and for this the Neapolitans nobles made to build up some huge and wonderful buildings between whose the most important is “Cellamare palace” that dominates the road from above of a relief. Moreover there are the Sannazaro theatre and the church of S. Caterina (‘600) |
