History

We had been considering the possibility of opening a hotel in the heart of the city for quite sometime.

After visiting Florence, Siena, Verona, Venice, and having stayed in the historical charming hotels (hotel de charme), where one can still breath the magic atmosphere of the place, we realized that Naples had nothing like this to offer.

A tourist coming to Naples could only book in one of the modern, five stars hotels on the sea front, but not every tourist could actually afford it or indeed wanted that type of experience.

We wanted to open the hotel in the property in Via chiaia which had been inherited by our mother, the niece of NH Nicola Lecaldano Sasso la terza, and her 3 brothers at the end of the 1800, beginning of 1900. This had also been their grandfather’s home.

We had to ask our uncles if they wanted to get involved in setting up the hotel there.
Theyare getting a bit old, so uncle Marcello offered us his share, uncle Lucio sold his share to us for a symbolic sum, and uncle manlio sold his one at a very good price!

We then presented our business plan to “sviluppo Italia” and they immediately approved the project.

During the year 2000, we renewed and refurbished the property, we collected from our various houses the antique furniture belonging to grandpa Nicola, and then finally, on 8th august 2001, we opened the hotel to the public. It looked much more beautiful and luxurious than we had ever imagined!

Straight away, all the major travel guides worldwide reviewed our hotel (check out the link “ what they say about us”). Due to the success of this project, we bought the adjoining building as well, the entrance of which is on Vico Sant’Anna di palazzo 3, right on top of the ancient Brandi Pizzeria. Up until 1958, this property was called “la suprema” , and it was the most renowned brothel in town.

We refurbished it trying to put back into it the atmosphere of the old days.
