The Christmas appointment with The Nutcracker has become quite a ritual at Teatro di San Carlo. Giuseppe Picone is the choreographer proposed for the Season 2018/2019. "My version on The Nutcracker was created in 2016 for Teatro Massimo in Palermo and it has been further enriched for Teatro di San Carlo - said Picone -. It is absorbed in a magic and fairy tale dimension. To accentuate the dreaming aspect of this gorgeous ballet I wanted to insert other elements in the choreography, always created by Nicola Rubertelli: a new Christmas tree, a cloud that make the Nutcracker fly in the world of the Sugar Plum Fairy and staging panels for ‘danza di carattere'. The choreography is different from the several versions of the title I have danced during my career. In this version I wanted to signal a clear contrast between the reality of Clara and her imaginary world animated by the Sugar Plum Fairy separating the two different roles so I have chosen two different interpreters" concludes the Neapolitan choreographer. A timeless classic, according to the great choreographer George Balanchine, The Nutcracker "is one of the good gifts of ballet, not only for children but also for everyone who loves the magic element of the theatre. It has a permanent enchantment that lasts every day of the year, not only at Christmas"
